As a child, Dora Glenn considered a future as a nurse or teacher. Seeing nurses in action when a close family member sustained an injury cemented her fate. Their knowledge and compassion compelled her to help, and she donned the purple gloves to assist with menial tasks.
“Having the chance to feel that I was able to help with her recovery, I knew that when I grew up, I wanted to be a nurse to help people and hopefully inspire others one day to be a nurse,” she said.
Glenn began her career as an inpatient nurse to gain experience and then transferred to the outpatient clinic at the Hollings Cancer Center. She completed her bachelor’s degree and committed to furthering her career in oncology.
She received the 2019 MUSC Outpatient Nurse of the Year Award, and for the last five years has served as a cellular therapy coordinator under the Cellular Therapy Program, working as part of a multidisciplinary team that ensures all requirements are met for treatment to proceed. After working primarily with adults, she recently transitioned to pediatric coordinator.
“I want to support the patient and family through the process and take the stress away from them so they can focus on the goal of getting better,” she said. “I am inspired every day by the strength of our patients and families and proud that I am a small part of their journey.”
