At Assisting Hands Home Care – Charleston, we believe the best care does not take over someone’s life. It helps them keep living it.
Locally owned and operated, Assisting Hands serves families throughout Charleston and the surrounding Lowcountry. We support individuals who need help with everyday routines, are returning home after a hospital stay, are living with dementia or other conditions, or need temporary assistance while recovering from surgery or welcoming a new baby. We also give family caregivers a much-needed break.
Our philosophy is something we call independence keeping: providing the right amount of support while helping people continue doing as much as they can — and want to — for themselves. That may mean help with personal care, meals, medication reminders, mobility, transportation, errands, or companionship. It may also mean using technology to add support without adding unnecessary intrusion. Through our 24/7 HomeFree Signature Care packages, Assisting Hands can provide another layer of visibility between caregiver visits. Using non-wearable, non-camera technology, we can identify meaningful changes in patterns such as activity, sleep, cognitive, fall risk, and daily routines, among others, helping our care team recognize when needs may be changing while preserving privacy and independence. HomeFree Signature Care packages start with our solo care tier for those not sure where to start – and the first 60 days are on us.
Home care solutions do not look the same for every family. Sometimes the right answer is a few carefully placed hours each week. Sometimes it is short-term help after a hospital stay, overnight support, or around-the-clock care. Sometimes it is a combination of technology and hands-on assistance. We build care around the person and adjust support as needs change.
Families also have direct access to local leadership when questions arise or circumstances become more complicated. We can help families explore resources that may make care more sustainable, including long-term care insurance, VA benefits, and applicable programs such as Medicare GUIDE respite support.
Most importantly, families do not have to wait for a crisis to ask for help. A small amount of support introduced at the right time can make a meaningful difference in how long someone can remain safely and confidently at home.
Accepting help is not giving up independence. Sometimes, it is exactly what helps preserve it.
