Our Physicians
Edmund Rhett, OBGYN, Founder
Dr. Rhett, a Charleston native, graduated from The University of the South with a biology degree and earned his MD from The Medical College of Georgia. Board-certified since 1979, he founded Mt. Pleasant’s first OB/GYN practice, which grew into Lowcountry OB/GYN, the region’s largest. In 2006, he transitioned to focus exclusively on gynecology, establishing a unique practice with an in-house surgery center for minimally invasive procedures. Dr. Rhett also developed a comprehensive weight loss program and expanded bioidentical hormone replacement therapy offerings. An active community leader, he serves on several boards and enjoys time with his wife and family.
David Smith, OBGYN
Dr. Smith was born and educated in Charleston. Graduated from The Citadel with a BS in Chemistry and earned his medical degree from The Medical University of South Carolina. Board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology since 1992, he has practiced in Mt. Pleasant since 1986, with privileges at Roper St. Francis and East Cooper Medical Center. Specializing in minimally invasive surgery and alternative procedures to hysterectomy, Dr. Smith provides comprehensive gynecologic care, including menopausal treatment, hormone replacement therapy, and weight management. Additionally, he is trained and experienced in aesthetic procedures such as Botox and Juvederm.
Michelle Chandler
Michelle Chandler is an ultrasonographer and the lead CoolSculpting and InMode Votiva Specialist at Rhett Women’s Center, focusing on feminine wellness solutions. With over 20 years of collaboration with founder Dr. Edmund Rhett, Michelle has helped grow the center into a multi-provider, comprehensive practice. She also manages the AAAASF-accredited surgery center. A Lowcountry resident since 1986, Michelle enjoys life by the coast with her two children.
