When Happy Hearts Therapy LLC opened in September 2019 on Daniel Island, it fulfilled the dream and ambition of Lindsay Kale, M.S., OTR/L, to open her own pediatric private therapy practice.
A licensed occupational therapist who specializes in pediatrics and sensory processing disorders, Lindsay has been practicing therapy for more than 13 years. Her professional career started in the Maryland education system, where she spent three years as a school-based occupational therapist. In relation to pediatrics, Lindsay explained that occupational therapy help children develop fully to achieve their greatest potential and independence.
She later worked in the private practice setting, where she enjoyed collaborating creatively with families and deriving outside-the-box therapy solutions to address the unique needs of children.
In 2018, she moved to Charleston and decided to take the leap a year later, founding Happy Hearts Therapy.
Together with her current team of occupational and physical therapists, Lindsay offers families an array of customized services to meet their children’s – ages birth to 18 years – specific developmental needs, whether it be sensory processing intervention, social skills intervention, improving fine motor and gross motor skills or feeding therapy. Happy Hearts Therapy specializes in helping kids with sensory integration deficits who may struggle with processing stimuli or information that comes in through the senses.
Since motor skills and play are such an important part of a child’s development, Lindsay contracted with Fun Factory Sensory Gym LLC – a former professional contact of hers from Maryland – to custom design a state-of-the-art sensory gym for Happy Hearts Therapy. The gym provides children with as many opportunities as possible to be exposed to sensory input that contributes to their full development. It features 20 different pieces of equipment, including monkey bars, zip-lines, swings and crash mats, and therapists work with children on improving gross motor skills such as strength, balance and control.
“We are completely client-centered,” said Lindsay. “We create individualized treatment plans for each child. I like to say that we’re very comprehensive and cohesive. Our goal is to build each child’s heart to be happy in life, therefore contributing to a healthy and happy family unit.”
