There’s a great veterinary hospital right here in the Lowcountry, with veterinarians and support staff focused on the well-being of your beloved dog or cat whether they are rescuing it from an emergency event or treating a serious, chronic condition.
If you have ever had a need for the most first-rate clinical pet care around, you already know that it’s Veterinary Specialty Care on Johnnie Dodds Boulevard in Mount Pleasant and East 3rd N. Street in Summerville.
Operating under the name Veterinary Specialty Care for more than 20 years, the 24-hour emergency and specialty veterinary hospital has a new name that’s even better because it serves communities in which everything oyster is so important. Its new name is BluePearl Charleston.
According to BluePearl Charleston Outreach Coordinator Natalie Garber, “BluePearl acquired our practice in January 2021. The acquisition includes both of our facilities. The change in ownership resulted in both of our facilities being updated inside and out to reflect this significant change.”
To put pet owners’ minds at ease, Garber noted that “Few changes will be obvious from our clients’ perspective. Our dedicated and talented veterinary doctors and technical staff will continue to function and operate just as we did under the VSC banner. And, as veterinary professionals, we will have additional support and educational training tools available to us as part of the Blue Pearl group of nationwide veterinary hospitals.”
The original Veterinary Specialty Care was founded in 1999 by Drs. Henri Bianucci and Perry Jameson. This first full-care veterinary hospital soon added a second location in North Charleston – which closed in 2020 – and another in Summerville.
VSC worked in partnership with primary care veterinarians who referred pets in need of specialized diagnostics, treatments or procedures much as a medical doctor would refer patients to specialists to receive treatment for a specific illness or injury.
Among the specialized services it offered were dentistry and oral surgery; diagnostic imaging, including CT scans, ultrasound and MRI; internal medicine, neurology and neurosurgery; and oncology. BluePearl will continue to offer these same services and partner with the primary care veterinary clinics in the community to provide the best care for your pet.
Owned by Mars, Inc., BluePearl currently operates more than 100 emergency and specialty veterinary hospitals throughout the United States.
“Though our name has changed,” Garber assured, “everyone in the Lowcountry can still expect the same gold standard of care for their furry friends.”
