Dana Blalock, DDS, has a passion for excellence and an innovative approach that have improved the lives of countless patients at Sleep Better South Carolina in Charleston and Bluffton. Through her practice, she treats patients with sleeping problems such as snoring and sleep apnea.

Dr. Blalock did not follow a straight path to her current position. “I had several different journeys in my lifetime,” she said. “I joined the Navy after dental school with orders to Charleston, where I met my husband, and we’ve been here ever since.”

After 27 years practicing general and cosmetic dentistry, Dr. Blalock began to learn about the correlation between her dental patients’ airways and their overall health, and, with her forward-looking attitude she began crafting her next journey.

COVID created a pivot point for Dr. Blalock. She realized how easy it can be to put off dreams. “I told myself that my someday has to happen now,” she said.

Dr. Blalock’s pursuit of excellence led to hundreds of hours of continuing education and discussions with colleagues. “It really was a leap of faith when I leased the new space and created a practice dedicated to issues related to sleep,” she explained. “I haven’t looked back.”

She sometimes needs to remind herself to take some time to refuel. “I need to practice what I preach to my patients,” Blalock said. “It’s so important to get seven-and-a-half to eight hours of sleep, commit to exercise and eat a healthy diet.”

Patient success stories are what energize Dr. Blalock. Along with her team, she knows they change lives.

“Patients tell me that our treatments have been a game changer, improving their health, improving their lives,” she said. “Hearing about great outcomes for my patients is why I do what I do.”
