Women’s health is a cornerstone for East Cooper Medical Center, which has provided generations of women with personalized and comprehensive care for every stage of their life.
“We’re proud to offer breast care, gynecology, obstetrics, maternal fetal medicine, pelvic health, urogynecology and a level II nursery, providing infant care as early as 32 weeks gestation,” said Morgan Lancaster, marketing manager of East Cooper Medical Center, which was recently acquired by Novant Health.
Lancaster has worked for the Mount Pleasant-based hospital system for over five years and has seen firsthand the increased support for service line growth and community support for all services, including women’s care.
“The inpatient units dedicated to women’s care continue to grow through clinical and physical renovations and expansions,” Lancaster said. “We are dedicated to expanding our infrastructure to provide spaces for our various women’s services.”
A University of South Carolina graduate, Lancaster helps create awareness of the hospital system’s women’s services, which provide education and extended support for patients and their families, including maternity classes, support groups and outpatient lactation support. These important services are offered to all women and their families in the community. Being a patient is not a requirement to participate.
“We also partner with organizations like Postpartum Support Charleston to provide additional support for patients, including a postpartum planning course, the annual Moms’ Run and the Beyond Delivery program that provides a free meal to new moms. Other organizations and events that we partner with to support our mission to expand women’s care are March of Dimes, SheTris, the Charleston Walk of Remembrance and Swing for the Lowcountry,” Lancaster said. “I continue to be grateful for the hospital culture, our patients and community.”
Lancaster’s career in the health care field began after graduation when she served as the community relations coordinator at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, South Carolina. There, she managed the hospital’s annual charitable contributions and community relations. She moved to Charleston in 2019 and joined the East Cooper Medical Center system as marketing manager.
“Every skill set is needed in health care. While we tend to mostly think of clinical caregivers, health care requires many skill sets across various fields to function successfully. There’s a place for everyone in health care,” Lancaster said.
Over 50% of East Cooper Medical Center’s employed physicians are female, and several have been nominated and selected as Best OBGYN by various publications. The hospital has received Best Labor and Delivery Unit and Best Hospital awards on numerous occasions.
“Since its inception in 1986, East Cooper has shown its commitment to expanding services, advancing technology, increasing patient education and community engagement,” Lancaster said. “With the support of a new owner, Novant Health, the sky is the limit for what our hospital can provide to the citizens – and especially women – in our community.”
