With a focus on treating vascular disease while maintaining patient independence and lower extremity health, it is no surprise that Coastal Vascular & Vein Center’s (CVVC) Dr. Adam Keefer, MD won “Best Vascular Surgeon.”
Several key factors are no doubt contributors to the practice’s success, including minimally-invasive techniques, rapid access to quality care and outpatient services at multiple locations.
As managing partner and president, Dr. Keefer emphasizes the practice is uniquely focused on treating vascular disease with a strong emphasis on maintaining patient independence and lower extremity health.
CVVC has several unique accolades, including being the only accredited vein center in the lower half of South Carolina as well as offering the Lowcountry’s only outpatient dedicated vascular ambulatory surgery center (ASC) for procedures.
The practice treats a myriad of conditions, including aneurysms, arterial disease, blocked veins, knee pain, varicose veins and vein disease, wounds, Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE) and plantar fasciitis.
For Keefer, a love for his patients is a key driving force.
“It is easy to stay motivated when you are saving people’s legs and preserving patient independence. I also love the unique personal stories every patient has,” Dr. Keefer said.
Dr. Keefer was born and raised in Rochester, New York. He attended Pennsylvania State University where he graduated Summa Cum Laude before continuing his education at the University of Rochester Medical School. He describes his medical school professors as amazing mentors and happy to have that same collaborative spirit among the staff at CVVC.
“All the surgeons at CVVC are exceptional and we really push each other to maintain high standards of care and try new and innovative things,” he said.
Keefer is board certified by the American Board of Surgery in Vascular Surgery and is certified to read diagnostic vascular studies by the National Organization of Diagnostic Ultrasound (ARDMS). He is also published and recognized for his research in numerous publications including the Journal of Vascular Surgery.
Due to the nature of vascular disease, professionals like Keefer follow their patients for years, get to know them and often become like family. He believes these relationships were a contributing factor to his Best in Health win.
“It is an honor to win this HealthLinks award, especially since it comes from the patients that we treat. I know it also pushes me to continue to strive to provide the best care I possibly can for them,” he said.
From a surgical standpoint, Keefer said that vascular surgery allows surgeons to perform traditional open surgery as well as new minimallyinvasive endovascular procedures like stents or balloons. He believes offering patients multiple treatment options is an exciting bonus.
For anyone interested in a future in vascular surgery, Keefer said they can certainly expect a highly rewarding career. While surgeons enjoy the technical aspect of what they do, the patients they treat are the most memorable.
Whether you visit Keefer or any of the other surgeons, CVVC’s six locations mean ease of mind and ease of treatment for all patients.
