If you ask Dr. Jennifer Lohse, a periodontist in Mount Pleasant, why she chose her particular kind of dentistry, the answer is that it allows her to have continuity with a patient’s care.
“I see my patients a lot,” she explained. “We are able to form a relationship.”
Originally from the Garden State of New Jersey and a graduate of the Medical College of Georgia, Dr. Lohse has been in the South since 1998 and has loved every minute of it.
“The people here are warm, friendly and caring,” she said.
According to Dr. Lohse, the mouth is a “gateway to a patient’s overall health” – and many folks aren’t aware of how severely infection and other mouth maladies affect the body’s total performance. “When it comes to our physical health, the mouth is a good indicator,” she said. “Leukemia, Crohn’s disease and diabetes are often visible in the mouth before other places.”
At her practice, Dr. Lohse cares for the bones, gums and teeth of her patients, including tooth extractions, implant placement and treatment for oral infections.
“There are so many people who couldn’t smile previously because of their oral health, and you can make them feel like a superstar,” she commented.
