About MUSC Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery Program
The Medical University of South Carolina’s weight loss surgery program has been the most experienced in the area since the early 1990s. Bariatric surgeons Dr. Byrne, Dr. Pullatt, and adolescent surgeon Dr. Aaron Lesher perform the Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass and Sleeve Gastrectomy, and we are the only center in SC at this time offering the Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch, and one of only 2 accredited to perform surgery on adolescents. Revisions of previous procedures for complications or in some cases conversions to other bariatric procedures for failure to lose weight or weight regain are considered.

We are recognized as a nationally accredited Comprehensive Program with Adolescent Accreditation under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP®). MBSAQIP works to advance safe, high-quality care for bariatric surgical patients through the accreditation of bariatric surgical centers.
