“We are able to provide a level of advanced urgent care that you can’t get at any other urgent care location,” said Dr. Barron Nason, sitting in the former free-standing emergency department where, following his residency, he worked as a board-certified emergency physician.

Dr. Barron Nason, MD, at NasonCare in North Charleston, SC.Because of its ER history, NasonCare urgent care is equipped with a new CT scanner, digital radiography and full-service laboratory capabilities – a setup you are unlikely to find at other urgent care facilities.

“There are two ways to evaluate people: imaging and analyzing fluids,” said Dr. Nason. “At NasonCare, we do both and are able to provide our patients an accurate diagnosis during one visit.”

Patients can walk in with an injury, and, after a minimal wait time and payment of a small co-pay, receive tests that can deliver results.

“We understand the urgency of their ailment and their desire to be on their way with the right diagnosis and treatment as needed,” he explained.

Wondering how it’s possible to have minimal wait times in an urgent care setting? NasonCare has a capacity of 12 rooms with multiple providers on the floor daily, including registered nurse staff and support from our medical assistants.

Match With These Providers

“It’s one of the greatest gifts we are committed to give our patients: more of their own time,” he said.

“A culture of kindness, hard work, sincerity and treating patients with respect,” said Dr. Nason. “Those are qualities that talented people want to be a part of.”

Like most employees, “Patients want to feel like someone cares about them,” said Dr. Nason. He knows, from reviewing patient consensus reports and listening to them firsthand, “They don’t want to wait. They want to be treated like human beings – with respect – and they want to find treatment without being sent to numerous other medical facilities.”

“Keep it simple,” said Dr. Nason, who extends this philosophy further to payment plans and treatments that simply match the needs of patients. “It’s so easy to complicate medicine if we are not adherent to this mantra.”

“At NasonCare, we talk to you in a language you can understand. We give verbal and written explanations and instructions, we call back discharged patients within 72 hours to check for comprehension and to answer to any questions or concerns. Communication is so critical,” said Dr. Nason.

At the junction of communication and service, the NasonCare way is about “providing patients with the tools that make them feel better efficiently.”

“As an ER doc, I’ve spent my life in the fixing problems business, but I now have preventive medicine specialists – providers who specialize in primary care – who work alongside me,” said Dr. Nason.

Being in good company, Dr. Nason can patch patients up and then get them scheduled for a primary care visit for ongoing wellness and management of their health: “It’s being a one-stop-shop that makes us so unique.”

This partnership facilitates patients making the move from episodic, problem-fixing care in an urgent care setting to more regular, preventive care found with a primary care physician.
