How would you describe your journey to becoming the dentist you are today?
Over the last 35 years, I have completed hundreds of hours of continuing dental education and training to develop my expertise in cosmetic dentistry, smile make overs and full mouth rehabilitations. At Smile Carolina Dental Group, I am able to utilize my expertise to focus on patients who desire to improve their smiles in a comprehensive way.
What routines and habits help you prepare for, or recover from, a day’s challenges?
It can be tough working in a fixed position all day, and it can take a toll on a dentist’s back, neck and shoulders. I have found that regular exercise is key to maintaining my strength and stamina while I work. The mental and emotional challenges for me as a dentist include the desire for perfection in my work while being a caring, empathic health care provider. Physical exercise can help in this regard, too, but also I find just being able to talk to my co-workers and discuss the day’s work can help to de-stress.
What or who inspires you?
I am very inspired by my team at Smile Carolina Dental Group. My colleague, Dr. Jeffrey Johnson, is incredibly knowledgeable and experienced, and our team of dental hygienists and assistants inspire me in the way they truly care for the well-being of our patients.
Describe the person and provider you strive to be.
I strive to be an honest and ethical person and dentist. I hope to be a person and dentist that others can trust – that I will do what I say I will do and have integrity in all of my interactions with them. Because some people find going to the dentist less than pleasant, my team and I utilize a number of comforts like headphones and warm blankets to help our patients relax and enjoy the experience. I also strive to develop my own expertise in comprehensive dentistry so that I can deliver exceptional care to my patients.
